How is a caregiver verified?

Our team manually reviews each caregiver's government ID, references and police record before their profile goes live. For nurses, we check their nursing qualification, nursing registration and CV instead of a police record. Optional documents like CPR certification are reviewed the same way and shown on their profile once confirmed.

Can I cancel a job?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both the family and the caregiver can cancel a job. If a confirmed, online-paid booking is cancelled by a caregiver or by DearGivers before the job takes place, the family gets a full refund of what they paid us. If the family cancels, the service fee is not refundable and the rest depends on how much notice was given. See our Terms for the full details.

If you paid online in full, this is covered by our backup guarantee. Contact us and we will work to find a same-day replacement or refund you.

Yes. There is a dedicated option when describing your job. Choosing it means only verified nurses will see or be matched with your request. We also offer Nurse Care Bundles with care logs and updates for families who need clinical oversight.

How does the application work?

It has two steps. First you share your personal and salary details. Our team reviews every application. If approved, we email you to upload your documents. Most caregivers upload a national ID, a reference and a police record. Nurses upload a national ID, a reference, a nursing qualification, their nursing registration and a CV. After we verify those, your profile goes live and you can start getting jobs.

Nurses need a national ID, a reference, a nursing qualification certificate, their nurse registration or license, and a CV, and do not need a police record. CPR, care training and specialized certificates are optional for everyone, and they help you stand out.

How and when do I get paid?

Once a job is completed, your payment is sent the same day, or before noon the next business day. For longer bookings you are paid week by week. If a weekly payment would fall on a Saturday or Sunday, we send it on the Friday before. Make sure your banking details are added in your profile so nothing is held up.

Can I set my own rates?

Yes. You set your own weekly, day and overnight rates, and you can pause new bookings at any time without affecting jobs you have already confirmed.

Can I cancel a job?

Yes, caregivers can cancel a job too. Please do it as early as you can so the family can find someone else, because families are refunded in full when a caregiver cancels.

What standards do caregivers have to follow?

Every caregiver agrees to our Caregiver Code of Conduct when they apply. It covers respect for clients, reliability, honesty, privacy, safety and professional boundaries. Lesser issues start with a warning, and serious misconduct, such as theft, abuse or working while impaired, can lead to immediate removal from DearGivers. What if my application is not approved?

You can always apply again. We will email you to let you know. If you are approved but do not upload your documents within 60 days, the application is closed and you can re-apply any time.

Which payment methods can I use?

Accepted Answer

You can pay by card, or by bank transfer to one of our accounts and then upload your receipt. Service fees are shown clearly before you pay, and are lower for bank transfers.

Can I pay in US dollars?

Yes. Families can pay DearGivers in either Jamaican dollars (JMD) or US dollars (USD), depending on where you are and what you prefer. You can switch the prices between J$ and US$ at checkout.

When is my bank transfer confirmed?

Our team confirms it once we have checked your receipt, usually within one business day and sometimes up to 3. You will get an email as soon as your booking is secured.

My card was declined. What now?

Your booking is saved and nothing is charged. Try another card or check with your bank, then retry from the same booking. You can also choose bank transfer instead.
